| "Empalaos" Valverde de la Vera Cáceres, Extramadura 20th March A re-enactment of Christ's walk carrying the cross on which he was to be impaled at the hill of Calvary, Jerusalem. Villager's walk through the streets in bare feet and a crown of thorns. Their only clothing is old petticoats and a veil covering their faces. They are all fastened to a plough beam by esparto ropes. Everyone in the village walks the way of the cross and not a word is spoke, It is all in total silence. |
