Paolo and
Vittorio Taviani’s World War I drama “The Lark Farm” will open the 4th
edition of the 100% European Seville Film Festival, which will also host
the world premiere of Spanish helmer Jesus Ponce’s social comedy “Dejate
caer." Closing night film at Seville will be claustrophobic thriller “The Man from London,” directed by Magyar filmmaker Bela Tarr. Fest’s official section will screen 16 film titles in competition — often previously prized pics — including works from established European auteurs such as Germany’s Volker Schlondorff (“Ulzhan”) and Fatih Akin (“The Edge of Heaven”), Blighty’s Ken Loach (“It's a Free World....”), and France's Claude Chabrol (“The Girl Cut in Two”) and Jacques Rivette (“Don't Touch the Ax”). Festival earmarks Euros 240,000 ($339,360) to winners of the competition sections, payable in coin for the pics’ distribution in Spain. Presided by German helmer-producer Reinhard Hauff, the official section jury also includes U.S. producer Letty Aronson, Karlovy Vary fest artistic director Eva Zaoralova, U.K. producer Kevin Loader and from Spain actor Juanjo Puigcorbe, helmer-journalist Javier Rioyo and TV director Felix Pinuela. Seville will screen tributes to Ingmar Bergman and Michelangelo Antonioni and will celebrate the film careers of German director Alexander Kluge and Italian documentary helmer Gianni Mina. Festival national cinema focus falls this year on the Czech Republic. Fest will also honor Prague-born helmer Jiri Menzel, whose black comedy "I Served the King of England" will also play in competition. The Seville festival has programmed 150 film titles from 30 European countries. Underscoring the diversity of recent local production across Europe, the section Europe_Europe include 24 pics from the long list of nominations for this year’s the European Film Awards. More cinema, more European Seville Film Festival began last year with a lot of new changes. Now, waiting to meet again the experts from the European film industry, between the 2nd and the 10th November, 2007, this Festival has more and new sections, giving special attention to an European country cinematography. Last three editions Seville paid tribute to the German, French and Italiand films. Once again, the Festival will enjoy with the great European cinema of the year along different competitive sections and additional activities such as seminars, lectures, exhibitions, public presentations... The Festival, which next edition will be celebrated from the 2nd to the 10th of November 2007, has become a reference point for the European film industry as well as a meeting point for distribution professionals both within and out of the Continent. In fact, one of its most interesting features is that the awards (worth a total of 240,000 euros) are given to support the distribution of the winner films in Spain. The Seville Film Festival programme has aimed at all types of public. Spectators have once again the opportunity to watch films that reflect the day-to-day existence of our European neighbours, in a key historical moment after the European Union enlargement to 27 countries. The Festival is an excellent opportunity to bring the film culture closer to the younger generations, providing them with a comprehensive offer of leisure and culture. The Seville Film Festival has been held in the city since 2001, at different projection halls such as the Nervión Plaza Cinema and the Lope de Vega Theatre The event is dedicated specifically to contemporary European film.
