 San Sebastian Tinkers Parade
26 January 2008
Caldereros fiesta is quite an event in Donostia-San Sebastián, as well as in other areas of Gipuzkoa, such as Anoeta, Astigarraga, Irun and Tolosa. Several groups or clubs participate emulating Hungarian gypsies who arrived in the city to sell their products on Carnival day. The Tinkers' Parade is a peculiar way to announce the upcoming Carnival, where tribes of gypsies and beautiful gypsy women delight onlookers and spectators with their marvellous dances. They will play songs by Raimundo Sarriegui with the oddest instruments such as, frying pans, small saucepans, tinks, hammers and pots. Obviously, the queen and her two ladies (men dressed in women clothes), the bear and the tamer will be the most emblematic characters present at the parade. Music, dance, entertainment, exotic clothing and festive atmosphere are the most outstanding features to describe such a special day.
