Sailors' fiesta in Rincón de la Victoria
Hundreds of onlookers will watch the moving procession of the Virgen del Carmen.
From 13 to 16 July, 2009 Rincón de la Victoria is having its Puerta de la Axarquía Sailors' Fiesta, one of the most important popular celebrations in Málaga and a good opportunity for those who live in Rincón de la Victoria, La Cala del Moral, and Torre de Benagalbón -three coastal districts in the area- to get together.
This fiesta holds many surprising events, but its highlight is the procession of the Virgen del Carmen across the sea, which this year will take place on Monday 16, just on this Virgin's day. The image will be taken to the sea by local sailors, who will then carry it on their shoulders along the town's streets, among the enthusiastic crowds.
The fiesta will also feature a series of concerts on the Tajo beach: Andy and Lucas, Rosa, and David de María will perform day after day at midnight, turning the beach into one of the celebrations' nerve centres.
Meanwhile, there'll be concerts at the Town Hall square too: María José Santiago, María Gil, Los Artistas de Jerez, María Carrasco, Al-Andaluz orchestra, and the Piu Chiapo intercultural group. All the activities in the context of the fiesta are free. There's reason to celebrate.
