Sea battles.Living chess (a la Xabia)A re-enactment of the wedding of Hannibal and HimilceA Roman CircusThen a representation of Hannibal setting of on his epic journey to Rome with his elephants and all.Really this is a great festival. Carthaginians and Romans are Festivities based on important events of the history of Spain that had got the city and people from Cartagena as protagonists. Before starting the festivities we were considering which one could be the most important events to bear in mind because we wanted to revive and live them 22 centuries later in our town. Although the antiquity of Cartagena is over 3000 years, it was first with Carthaginians and after with Romans when our town started to be well-known around the world for its culture, development and importance. Because of that we decided to centre us round the Punic War, considering that it was at this time when Cartagena entered history by the great door. For several months we were investigating the events which we wanted to remember with pride, exhibiting them with acts and march past . After consulting classic authors and modern writers we decided we wanted to show through festivities the history since the Foundation of Kart-Hadasht by the Carthaginian Hasdrubal until its conquest by the Roman Scipio and his later occupation. http://www.cartaginesesyromanos.es/ Tourist offices in Spain Cartagena Oficina de Turismo de Cartagena - Plaza del AyuntamientoLocation Plaza del Ayuntamiento, s/n 30201 Cartagena (Murcia) Contact details infoturismo2@ayto-cartagena.es http://www.cartagena.es
