Benissa Patron Saint Festivities
are celebrated on the 4th Sunday of April.

The annual programme includes the Procession, Coronation of the Fiesta´s Queen together with different activities such as: bull fighting, music concerts, fireworks display and very special days dedicaded to the ribereros or “Els Fadrins” (for the single people).

FRIDAY, 24th: FIESTA QUEENS CORONATION DAY

9:00 p.m. Parade of “festeros” and the Sociedad Lírica Musical de Benissa and Xirimiters Pere Bigot bands.

10:00 p.m. Gathering of “festeros”, authorities and Fiesta Queens of neighboring towns at the Town Hall .

10:30 p.m. The Fiesta Queens 2009: Lucia Piera Ferrer & Aida Cuart Coll Coronation Ceremony. In the Paseo Dolores Piera. The ceremony will be followed with the Evasion band on the plaça Rei Jaume I.

SATURDAY, 25th : FLORAL OFFERING DAY

8:30 a.m. Religious ceremony in honour of the patroness.

10:30 a.m. Children’s Playground in the Glorieta Dolores Piera.

1:00 p.m.. “Entrada de la Murta” traditional parade with bell ringing and the music of the “colla de Xirimiters Pere Bigot” and the Cornetes i Tambors band.

9:00 p.m. Evening Mass.

9:30p.m. Floral Offering to the “Puríssima Xiqueta” Virgin Mary and the giving of medals to the members of the 2009 Fiesta Committee.

12:00 p.m. Fantastic firework display by CABALLER Pyrotechnics In the avenida de l’Alcudia.

00:30 a.m. Concert with “NENA DACONTE” and the “BAZTER” band in the paseo Dolores Piera.

SUNDAY, 26th : PURÍSSIMA XIQUETA’S DAY

8 a.m. The day starts with the ringing of bells and band parades.

8:30 a.m Morning Mass, Sing by “Regina Coelly Laetarre”.

10 a.m. Parade with “festeros” with bands and the “Colla de Xirimiters Pere Bigot”.

11:30 a.m. Holy Mass and Sermon in honor of Benissa’s Patrones the “Puríssima Xiqueta”, sung by the Coral Benissenca choir conducted by Javier Santacreu. After mass, visit to the “San Joaquín y Santa Ana” Old Peoples Home and parades.

2 p.m. “Mascletà” (noisy firework display) in the paseo Dolores Piera by Pirotecnia Caballer.

7 p.m. Evening Mass with the bringing down of the image and procession in honor of the “Puríssima Xiqueta”. Once the image of the Purísima Xiqueta has been returned to the Altar the CABALLER Pyrotechnics will let of a spectacular firework display.

12:30 a.m. Live music with the MUNDIAL band

MONDAY, 27 th :“RIBERER” DAY

8 a.m. The day starts with the ringing of bells and band parades.

8:30 a.m. Holy Mass

10 a.m. Parade with “festeros”, with different bands.

10:30 a.m. Children’s playground in the Paseo Dolores Piera.

11 a.m. Gathering “festeros” and authorities at the Town Hall.

11:30 a.m. Holy Mass and Sermon in honor of Benissa’a Patroness, the “Puríssima Xiqueta”, sung by the “Coral Benissenca” choir conducted by Javier Santacreu with an organ player.

1:30 p.m. The Fiesta Queens will place a wreath of flowers at the Riberero where tribute will be given all Benissa’s men, both living and dead, that in the past work in the rice fields of the Ribera region of Valencia. Riberero’s Memorial. Court to the Ribereros Salvador Ivars Ivars, Francisco Ribes Ivars & Bernardo Roselló Blanco.

2 p.m. “Mascletà” noisy firework display by CABALLER pirotécnics.

6:30 p.m. Parade of floats.

7.30 p.m. Live music with Rocío & Blas from the EUROJUNIOR, with the coreografy of the Denia’s Dance School BABILON.

Awards of the streets and floats.

8:30 p.m. Mass and sermon.

12 p.m. Traditional song in honor of the “Puríssima Xiqueta” at the house where Joan Vives lived in the Puríssima Street.

12:30 a.m. Firework display let off by Pirotécnica CABALLER in paseo Dolores Piera. Later, concert with ROSARIO FLORES.

2:30 a.m. Live with LA CREAM band.

TUESDAY, 28th: BACHELORS DAY

8:30 p.m. Mass and sermon.

10:00 a.m. BABALA Children’s playground in the Paseo Dolores Piera sponsored by the Town Hall of Benissa.

11:00 a.m. Traditional games in the plaza Rey Jaime I.

12 p.m. Third Festival PERE BIGOT, in the Paseo Dolores Piera.

2:00 p.m. “Mascletà” (noisy firework display) in the plaça de les Escoles Velles.

6:30 p.m. Fun parade with prizes for the best fancy dress costumes. Free chocolate for all the kids.

7 p.m. Theatre and Musical Entertainment with the company SCURAPLATS.

11:30 p.m. Live music with SIDECARS, BOICOTT & PORRETAS in the Paseo Dolores Piera.

WEDNESDAY, 29th:

8:30 p.m. Feast Mass.

7:00 p.m. First day for the Competition of ranchs from the Carlos Domenech ranch.

11:30 p.m. Traditional entry of bulls and cows from the La Paloma ranch followed by bull running with cattle from the Benavent ranch.

THURSDAY, 30th:

8:30 a.m. Feast Mass.

11:30 a.m. Bull running with cattle from Ifach ranch.

1:30 a.m. Wine and “Tapas” Typical from Benissa Tasting in the Paseo Dolores Piera.

7:00 p.m. Traditional entry of cows. Second day of the competition from the Benavent ranch.

11:30 p.m. Traditional entry of bulls from the La Paloma ranch.

Followed by Remember disco Mobil in the Paseo Dolores Piera and big “ Correfocs” ( Fireworks with music and fun through the streets).

FRIDAY, 1st may: BULL RUNNING

8:30 a.m. Feast Mass.

10:00 a.m. Children’s Playground in the Plaça Germans Ivars.

11:30 a.m. . Traditional entry of bulls from the Ifach ranch.

1:00 p.m. Wine and “Tapas” Typical from the area in the Parque Dolores Piera.

7:00 p.m. Traditional entry of bulls. Third day of competition from the La Paloma ranch.

11:30 p.m. Traditional entry of “bous embolats” ( bulls with fire on the horns) from the Benavent ranch, followed by entry of bulls with the Carlos Domènech ranch.

Followed by Disco Mobil with 2 Dj’s in the Parque Dolores Piera.

SATURDAY, 2nd : AÑADAS DAY

8:00 a.m. Feast Mass.

11:30 a.m. Gathering of “añadas” year groups in the convent.

12:00 p.m. Octopus and bear tasting sponsored by confraria de pescadores de Calpe in the plaça del Convent.

1 p.m. Parade of “añadas” year groups untill the Parque Dolores Piera.

2 p.m. Lunch for all the different year groups in the glorieta Dolores Piera. Giant paella sponsored by Mas y Mas Supermarket and bier sponsored by the wine cellar Blasco. Live music by Trio Orquestra Meravelles Brothers band and the Los Plata band.

7:00 p.m. Traditional bull running with the champion of the competition ranch.

8:30 p.m. Feast Mass.

11:30 p.m. Bull running from the Ifach ranch.

SUNDAY, 3th :EIGHTH DAY

8 a.m The last day of the fiesta starts with the ringing of bells and band parades.

8:30 a.m. Feast Mass.

10 a.m. Parade of “festeros” with bands and the Colla de Xirimiters “Pere Bigot”.

11 a.m. Gathering of public, musical bands, “festeros”, maids of honour and escorts, dignitaries at the Town Hall.

8:30 a.m. Mass sung by the “Orfeon Choir”, sponsored by the “Diputación Provincial de Alicante”.

1:30 p.m. Parade of “ festeros”.

2 p.m. “Mascletà” noisy firework display let off by Pirotécnica CABALLER.

8:00 p.m. Chorus concert sponsored by CAM in the Church Puríssima Xiqueta.

8:30 p.m. Feast mass.
