The Spanish Coasts for an unforgettable holiday

With summer quickly bearing upon us, most people’s minds are turning to the upcoming holidays!! For Northern European residents, escaping the damp, unpredictable weather is usually a priority. Understandably so.

The Spanish Costas still offer unbeatable opportunities. With such diverse landscapes, customs and ways of life, they cater for all needs.  Being such short distance away, less than three hours from most UK airports is another distinct advantage, particularly for those travelling with small children.

With so many fantastic deals on offer, the unbeatable facilities already in place and the range of choice available, now, is most definitely  the time to start planning an unforgettable beach holiday in Spain Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol is one of Spain’s best known areas. Most appropriately translated as ‘the sun coast,’ is a fairly diverse region consisting of more established towns and smaller traditional villages. The landscape is one of contrasts. Being, both very mountainous in areas and coastal in others. The Costa del Sol falls under the autonomous area of Andalucía. Nestled between the Costa Tropical and the Costa de la Luz, the Costa del Sol, including such well known towns as Marbella, Fuengirola, Torremolinos, Mijas and, of course, Malaga. The Costa has experienced a real tourist boom over the last two decades, with over 2 million visitors arriving in Malaga international airport a year.  All current predictions expect this figure to increase substantially over the next few years.  It is not hard to see why, with over 70 internationally renowned golf courses, a wide range of apartments in Costa del Sol average yearly temperatures of over 18C, not to mention the abundance of fantastic beaches. The Costa del Sol really has something for everyone. Costa Brava Costa Brava. Literally translated as the ‘Wild’ or ‘Rugged’ coast. The Costa Brava runs from Blanes (60km outside of Barcelona), all the way to the French border. It is basically the coastal area of North East Catalonia, falling with the region of Girona. Often singled out for its beautiful beaches and relaxed way of life.  The area was ear marked for development all the way back in the 1950s, where such towns as Blanes, Tossa del Mar and Lloret seem to come up almost overnight. Aimed primarily at the package holiday industry, the Costa Brava quickly became one of the leading tourist destinations in Europe.  Despite mass development, the area has retained its traditional charm and is increasingly popular with people from the UK and France for a wonderful holiday in Costa Brava.

Costa Blanca Costa Blanca, ‘the white coast,’ owes its name to BEA (British European Airways), back in the late 1950s.  Used as promotional name, it is something that over the years has stuck. Costa Blanca refers to the 200km odd of coastline that falls within the province of Alicante. Including such towns as Benidorm, Torrevieja, Altea, and Calpe. It is an area that is well known on the international tourist circuit where you´ll find beautiful holiday villas in Costa Blanca Characterised by white sandy beaches, hidden coves and natural abundance of marine life, the Costa Blanca is well known as a beach lover’s paradise. It is also blessed with some of the more mountainous areas of the Spanish peninsula. Indeed, Alicante is the second most mountainous region in Spain. Costa Dorada The Costa Dorada (Daurada in Catalan), or the ‘Gold coast,’ is situated in the Southern part of Catalonia. Stretching from the South of Barcelona to Tarragona. Unlike its Northern neighbor, the Costa Brava, the Costa Dorada´s landscape is relatively flat. It is an area characterized by endless stretches of golden beaches. Hence the name.

The Costa Dorada is divided up into ten counties, with 183 municipalities. Amongst the most renowned places are Tarragona, Salou, L'Ametlla de Mar Cambrils and Miami Playa. Despite a marine lateral of 216km, the area is also blessed with some outstanding countryside and is home to some of Spain’s best wines.
