15th to 25th February 2009A party in honour of the King Carnival is alive with special passion begins when he arrives with his entourage on Maundy Thursday until Easter Monday. During this time schools and other venues will organise cultural activities festival events in which everyone is invited to participate.
Children's carnival and procession take place on Saturday of Carnival in the streets and squares of the city but the key moment arrives on Carnival Monday with spectacular floats in the carnival procession that occurs to the main roads of the city.
The festivities end with the traditional Burial of the Sardine. In the Catholic Church, Holy Thursday (also known as Maundy Thursday) is the day that we celebrate the Last Supper, at which Christ instituted the Mass and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. It is the first day of the Triduum, the three days before Easter Sunday, during which we commemorate Christ's Passion
