"Chiscos" Festival in Torvizcón
Feasts & Festivals Andalucia
Torviscon, Andalucia
16 January 2010
On the night of the 16th of January this village in the Alpujarra (province of Granada) celebrates its bonfire festival in honour of Saint Antón.
In January, the town of Torvizcón is a bonfire with roasted bacon smell. Even a pig is drawn to cover part of the expenses of the party. The animal was bred loose on the streets of the town for months, being fed by all the neighbours to come primed to the party.
The "Chiscos" are big fires spread around the village, giving Torvizcón feeling that burns on all four sides. Around the fire, families gather to roast pork products, with good wine that came from the area (Costa wine) and accompanied by freshly baked bread.
Fiesta declared of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia.
