Jazz Festivals in Spain
The International Dixieland Festival was founded in 1994 and is held at various venues in the city of Tarragona.
The event focuses on the most traditional aspect of jazz, namely the New Orleans or Dixieland style, which is characterised by three types of melody: ragtime, blues and Europan marches. The main venue is the Metropol Theatre, although performances are also held at other concert halls around the city.

Tarragona International Dixieland Festival was born in Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain, in 1994, where since the restoration of democratic local governments jazz had been recovered as a stable form within the different cultural programmes during the year. As other Catalan and Spanish cities already had jazz festivals in a generic sense, the Town Hall of Tarragona opted to specialize in dixieland. That is to say, the starting point of jazz, the most traditional jazz, which involved some thematic innovation. Nowadays, this the unique dixieland festival in Spain and one of the major events in Tarragona
