 Christmas polo tournament at the Los Pinos grounds  is an important part of the areas Christmas celebrations as thousands of spectators enjoy the annual tournament as much as the players. Polo in Sotogrande goes back to the year 1965, when the first polo ground was built in the area, the mythic "La Playa" ground. This luxury housing estate belonging to the city of San Roque (Cádiz) is one of the most prestigious in Europe and it is located in Costa del Sol. Only a few imagined at that time that that would be the beginning of what is nowadays a totally deeply rooted hobby in the Gibraltar Campo area, and that attracts more and more supporters every year. It would not be until 1967 when this sport really begins to be practised, once "La Playa" ground was built. From that moment until now, Santa María Polo Club has been working for polo in order to be one of the most important clubs in Europe at present, positioning this location in a high place in this sector.
