Peñíscola Castle Theatre Festival
July/August 2008
Valencia

July
August

Classic theatre at the Peñíscola Castle

Until the 25th of August the fortified enclosure of the Papa Luna (Luna Pope) houses entertaining theatre performances with plays of great classic authors.

The tenth edition of the Classic Theatre Festival arrives at the Peñíscola Castle until the end of August. A total of 6 performances on the 14th, the 21st and the 28th of July and the 18th and the 25th of August will delight the public at the impressive frame of the templar fortress of the Ciudad del Mar (City of the Sea).

The program begins with the animation spectacle "Vivan los Clasicos", a parade where Teatro de Resistencia will perform classic plays around the streets with actors dressed with costumes, from the beach to the Castle.

Great classic plays like El sí de las niñas of Leandro Fernandez de Moratín, in charge of Teatres de la Generalitat, El perro del hortelano, by the Company Nacho Vilar & La Ruta, or Don Juan, played by Teatro Defondo, both works of Lope de Vega, will alternate with plays like El Casamiento, of Antón Chéjov, played by the company Histrión Teatro, and Hotel Venecia, directed by Chema Cerdeña and of Teatres de la Generalitat.

The booking and the selling of tickets will take place at the office of the Peñíscola Castle (information telephone: 964 48 00 21). The plays begin at 22:30 and the ticket is 12 euros.

The fortress of Peñíscola, which rises at the top of a small peninsula going into the sea and leaving behind the extensive Norte beach, was built by the Templars, who projected it over the remains of an old Arab fortress between 1294 and 1307.
