Olite Festival of Classical Theatre18th July- 3 August Kingdon of Navarre Olite Festival of Classical TheatreThe walls of the Castle-Palace of Olite serve as a fabulous backdrop for plays by the best dramatists of all time. In July and August, lovers of classical theatre have a date with the stage in the city of Olite. In 2008 the festival will take place between 18 July and 3 August. Since it began, the Olite Festival of Classical Theatre has opted for a programme of a general nature, accessible to a wide audience that looks for quality and faithful representation but, at the same time, appreciates the singularity of the castle setting. The Festival stages two open air productions. One venue is La Cava (The Cellar), reserved for major productions, with a capacity for some 700 spectators and the magically quiet Claustro de San Pedro (St Peter's Cloister), intended for smaller scale works or those that, by their very nature, need the audience to be close to the stage. The Olite Festival of Classical Theatre is a programme that is managed directly by the Department of Culture and Tourism - the Institución Príncipe de Viana within the Government of Navarre - and sponsored by Olite Town Council, the Caja Navarra foundation, Portland Valderrivas cement and Autopistas de Navarra (Motorway of Navarre). Paradores (the state-run hotel chain) also collaborate, as does the Consejo Regulador de la Denominación de Origen Vino de Navarra (the governing board for quality control of the wines of Navarre). Kingdom of NavarraClassical Theatre Festival July/AugustIf you’re a lover of classical theatre, you should know that every year between the end of July and the beginning of August there is an unmissable event in the town of Olite. Over 15 days, the works of some of the greatest dramatists of all time, such as Shakespeare, Molière, Calderón de la Barca and Tirso de Molina are brought to life in front of the walls of the beautiful Royal Palace. The Festival has two open-air stages: one at La Cava for the main productions, with a capacity of 700 spectators, and another in the cloister of the church of San Pedro for smaller-scale productions.
