11th November 2008Festival in honour of Our Lady of Anguish. The local devotion to Our
Lady of Anguish dates back to the seventeenth century, since 1906 she
has been one of the Patronesses of Guadix. The traditon has continued to
date and there is a procession of the image of the Virgin Mary through
the streets of our town on the second Sunday in November from the
Cathedral to the church where her image is kept. Before the procession
on the first Sunday of November, the image is taken from the church to
the Cathedral

of the patron saint St. Andres
the good towns folk of Puerto de
la Cruz think its appropriate to
bang pots and pans; they call it the fiesta del cacharro y la castaña
(pots and chestnuts). Whilst up
the road in
Icod de los Vinos youngsters engage in what looks like urban
sledding as they slide down the
town's steep streets on greased
wooden boards.
Any excuse for a party and we're
not complaining even if we
haven't got a clue why they do
it.
