St Anthony's Day
19th January, Menorca

A kind of Moors n Christians celebration takes place every year on Menorca celebrating when the Christian Aragonese king, Alphonso III, in 1287, took the island from the Moors.
They also celebrate St Anthony's Day.
The statue of San Antonio (St Anthony), which normally resides in the cathedral is paraded around the streets in this Catholic fiesta followed by the mayor, other dignitaries and the townspeople in a solemn procession.
On a lighter note there is a market where the traditional fruits brought to teh island by the Moors from Damascus in the 9th century are sold... dates, oranges and chestnuts
