Benissa Festival 2008
25 April to 3rd May
May Crosses Festival
2008
28th April to
3rd May Javea, Benitachell and every community in Spain. Wherever you are in Spain check the local town hall's for the local programme. Battle of the Flowers The 1st of May is a National Holiday ( Dia del Trabajo -Labour Day) In Spain, every town and village has another party, this time they combine it with spring flowers and have a festival 'May Crosses' Street parades, of course, bands, of course and plenty of cerveza. Whole communities decorate their houses with flowers and carry large crosses decorated with flowers. A street parade called "the Battle of the Flowers" in which floats decorated with flowers are driven though the cities and villages to welcome the coming of spring. The best part of any of these paraded is watching the Spanish especially the guys and lasses in the bands which only have a loose association with music ( maybe it's the drink!). Goya in Times of War April to July 2008 Museo Nacional del Prado
To coincide with the 200th
anniversary of the events of May 1808 and the start of the Spanish
War of Independence, the Museo del Prado is presenting a major
exhibition this spring devoted to Goya. It focuses on the two great
canvases of the 2nd and 3rd of May 1808 in Madrid which are
currently being cleaned and restored, while also analysing and
presenting Goya in a broader context.

Jerez Horse Fair 27 April to 4 May 2008 The Gonzalez Hontoria fair park becomes a town within another town and it is lighted as if a brilliant sun shined through more than 1,200,000 light bulbs with different colours. Badalona's Spring Fiesta Catalonia the burning of the devil Badalona's May feast day is yet another example of how unorthodox Spanish fiestas can sometimes be. The fiesta celebrates the local patron saint, Saint Anastasi, but also, strange as it may seem, includes a strong focus on the devil. Thousands converge on the town for music and traditional sardana dancing. Later on that day some gather on the local beach for the Cremada del Dimoni - the burning of a large statue of the devil, followed by fireworks. http://www.aj-badalona.es/
