Battle of the Flowers
The 1st of May is a National Holiday
( Dia del Trabajo -Labour Day)
In Spain, every town and village has another party, this time they combine it with spring flowers and have a festival 'May Crosses'
Street parades, of course, bands, of course and plenty of cerveza. Whole communities decorate their houses with flowers and carry large crosses decorated with flowers. A street parade called "the Battle of the Flowers" in which floats decorated with flowers are driven though the cities and villages  to welcome the coming of spring.  The best part of any of these paraded is watching the Spanish  especially the guys and lasses in the bands which only have a loose association with music ( maybe it's the drink!).

Badalona's Spring Fiesta
Catalonia
the burning of the devil Badalona's May feast day is yet another example of how unorthodox Spanish fiestas can sometimes be. The fiesta celebrates the local patron saint, Saint Anastasi, but also, strange as it may seem, includes a strong focus on the devil.
Thousands converge on the town for music and traditional sardana dancing. Later on that day some gather on the local beach for the Cremada del Dimoni - the burning of a large statue of the devil, followed by fireworks.

Caravaca de la Cruz
Fiestas de la Santísima y Vera Cruz
Declarada de Interés Turístico Internacional
This festival commemorates the appearance, in the 13th century, of the Holy Cross in the ancient fortress of Moorish king Abu-Zayt. The first day begins with a Reveille, in which there is no shortage of gunpowder, and this is followed by the big day of the fiestas with parades of Moors and Christians and the running of the Wine Horses (Caballos del Vino) up the castle ramp laden with heavy hogsheads of wine and richly embroidered mantles. Also celebrated is the Bathing of the Cross (Baño de la Cruz) in the baroque shrine, in memory of the miracle of 1384 when the holy waters ended a plague of locusts.

The Le Mans Series legend at the Circuit

On the 5th and the 6th of May, the international championship where the cars that participate in the mythical 24 hours of Le Mans compete, will come to Valencia in one of the five events that are part of the calendar.
The 1,000 kilometres of Valencia, name that will receive the race, will be the last opportunity for pilots and teams to compete before the celebration of the famous 24 hours of Le Mans, which is held in mid-June.
The competition will be a resistance race that will go through 1,000 kilometres, that is to say, a total of 250 laps to the winding layout of the Ricardo Tormo Circuit of the Valencia Region in Cheste. With the inclusion of the Le Mans Series in its calendar, Valencia joins the great circuits of Monza (Italy), Nurburgring (Germany), Spa (Belgium) and Silverstone (Great Britain), which celebrate this championship as well.
160 pilots of 26 different nationalities grouped in 44 teams from 11 countries participate in the championship. An average of 40 cars occupied the starting grid with 33 teams enlisted in each one of the events at the races celebrated last season. In addition, for the 2007season, Peugeot has announced the presence of their prototype of the 908 in all the races to prepare their disembarking at the 24 hours of Le Mans.

Patron Fiesta of Santo Domingo (La Rioja)
This annual fiesta is characterised by events such as 'the rounds of the Saint', typical in this area, in which the women of the town are obliged to participate.
These fiestas were declared of National Tourist Interest for their antiquity, originality and the diversity of the events that take place in memory of Santo Domingo and his works and miracles. On 10 May, the Branches are blessed outside of the temple. The day before, at 11:00, Mass is held in the hermitage of the Saint. In the afternoon the 'procession of the wheel' takes place, in memory of one the miracles performed by Santo Domingo. The wheel is then hung from the cathedral's cross vault.
Events begin on 10 April, when the names of the young girls who will carry the so-called 'bread of the Saint' are noted. The following week the 'rounds of the Saint' begin, which last until the day of the fiesta. The 'rounds' begin in the morning, and at night the town crier goes through the old part of town to celebrate the raids of the saint in search of pilgrims. During these days the faithful also go the tomb of Santo Domingo to pray. The day of the fiesta starts with the 'Saint's lunch': chickpeas with meat, bread and wine. Then pelota matches, bullfights and open-air dances are held. It all ends the Sunday following the fiesta when the 'Brotherhood of the Saint' goes on the pilgrimage to Gallinero de Rioja. Those who attend are given 'charity': bread, chorizo sausage and wine. Meanwhile, the dancers perform the 'palo', the 'árbol' and the 'arcos' (traditional dances).
