MADRID International JAZZ FESTIVAL 2009

The 26th edition of the Madrid International Jazz Festival and this time it'll be opened by one of the most important tenor saxophonists in the world, Joe Lovano, who's going to perform on November 4 in the Teatro Fernán Gómez (Plaza de Colón, 4).

Also appearing at this venue will be great names such as Richard Bona (Nov 7), Cassandra Wilson (Nov 18), who'll present her exquisite Thunderbird, and Toni Zenet (Nov 21), a captivating Andalusian crooner who brings to Madrid the themes of his first solo work Los Mares de China, which has the makings of a classic. Fusion is his thing: quite a journey which will allow the audience to dive into the Andalusian copla, the Argentinean tango, Cuban rhythms and the jazz of New York.

Other venues include Fundación Carlos de Amberes (Claudio Coello, 99) where the performer will be Roy Hargrove (Nov 6), and in the Teatro Circo Price (Ronda de Atocha, 35) the exciting Kike Perdomo & Eric Marienthal (Nov 12) and the innovative Madeleine Peyroux (Nov 13).  Patricia Kraus and Edith Salazar, will perform at The Centro Cultural Nicolás Salmerón (Mantuano, 51) on the 27th and 28th.

A total of 15 clubs spread all over the city will also take part in this edition, which is completed with the programmes of the XXVIII Festival de Jazz de San Juan Evangelista and the XIV Festival de Jazz de Ciudad Lineal. There will also be musicians performing on the streets, workshops, presentations of up-and-coming artists and a lot of cinema, with different venues showing films in which the soundtracks stand out on their own, such as The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (Instituto Francés de Madrid, Nov 3) and Breathless (Centro Cultural Nicolás Salmerón, Nov 10).
