Musicalibre, Spanish association of improvisation, is a cultural association nonprofit composed mainly of musicians improvisers Madrid, Leon, Valladolid and La Coruna, as well as some other artists (poets, painters, photographers, etc.) associated with improvisation and / or artistic interaction.

Esta asociación, desde octubre de 1995, ha organizado encuentros, conciertos, seminarios y otras actividades asociadas a la divulgación de la música improvisada en España ya la interacción entre la música y otras expresiones artísticas: danza, poesía, artes plásticas, etc.

En 1996 se funda, en el seno de Musicalibre, la orquesta FOCO , que desde entonces se reúne regularmente consolidándose como una de las agrupaciones dedicadas a la improvisación libre más estables.

Musicalibre ha puesto en marcha el Festival Internacional de Improvisación Hurta Cordel que, desde su primera edición en 1997, se ha seguido celebrando cada año.

Durante este festival, y todas las actividades que en él se generan - seminarios, encuentros musicales informales, charlas, etc-, se cumple otro de los objetivos fundamentales de este colectivo: crear vínculos entre artistas que viven en distintos lugares para facilitar un contínuo intercambio de información e ideas, sentando las bases para futuras colaboraciones dentro y fuera de España, algo que ya se está produciendo.

Musicalibre está en contacto con artistas y colectivos de Londres (London Musician Colective), Wuppertal, Berlín, Toulouse (La Filibuste), León (El CCAN), Valladolid, La Coruña y Barcelona (IBA). Algunos músicos y artistas de estos colectivos, han sido invitados por Musicalibre para participar en los conciertos que, de forma estable, se celebran en diferentes lugares de Madrid, como Artépolis , en el barrio de Lavapiés, o La Casa de los Jacintos en La Latina.

Every year La Casa Encendida in Madrid hosts the International Festival of Improvisation. More than 50 musicians from 14 different countries take part in the spontaneous performances, which sometimes include video and dance.
In 2008, the festival kicks off with five veterans of musical improvisation: Llorenç Barber, a bell-ringing soloist; British guitar-playing legend John Russell, performing with Garden Gift's bass guitarist Jean Demey; and saxophonist Lotte Anker accompanied by contrabassist Wilbert de Joode.

The festival (organised by Musicalibre) always culminates with performances from the F.O.C.O. orchestra, made up of 20 improvising musicians. This year Austrian Michael Fischer, who has more than ten years of experience working with groups like the Vienna Improvisers Orchestra and the Vienna Improvisers String Ensemble, has been invited to direct
