Semana grande (Local festival week) of fair and fiestas in Gandia
28th September to 3rd October
The ducal city holds its traditional fiestas halfway between September and the beginning of October with numerous shows; amongst those which are traditionally curious are the celebrations revolving round the Tío de la Porra (Guy with the Truncheon).

Gandia, a coastal tourist destination in the province of Valencia, holds its already traditional Fira i Festes (Fair and Fiestas) between 28th September and 3rd October.

Amongst the wide-ranging programme of ludic and festive events historic re-enactments and dramatised visits revolving around the Borja family, very closely linked to the city, in the surroundings of the Ducal Palace, are undertaken, with Renaissance markets, street entertainment, trade demonstrations, exhibitions and workshops open to the participation of the public, which will be set up until the end of the fiestas.

On Friday 28th there will be acts revolving around the popular traditional character of the Tío de la Porra, with a gathering of bands, cavalcade and pyrotechnical display, as well as the inauguration of the Arts Festival in the street, in the central avenue Paseo de Germanías, which will be held during all the festive days.

Amongst the numerous musical performances planned, one can highlight the concerts of David Bisbal, on Saturday 29th, and Serrat and Sabina, on Tuesday 2nd October, as well as of others such as the Sirex, Bertín Osborne, Alberto Cortez, Luis Aguilé Fangoria or Malevaje. Also programmed are performances by folkloric and ethnic musical groups.

Theatre performances, Zarzuela (Spanish light opera), dance musicals, passacaglia, a magical night with correfocs and a mobile disco complete the programme of events that closes on 3rd October, which is the patron saint feast day of Gandia, San Francisco de Borja, who is honoured with religious celebrations and an end of fiesta fireworks display set off from the river.
