Puppet Festival
(From 30-11-2007 to 09-12-2007) Festitíteres, the International Puppet Festival, returns to Alicante. The festival was first organized in 1984, with the intention of promoting the public's interest in the traditional art of puppeteering. Alicante's streets and venues will be filled by fantastic characters thanks to the presence of companies visiting the city from all over the world. There will be outdoors as well as indoors plays and performances that will bring audiences closer to varied puppeteering techniques, such as the use of gloves, threads and linens, shadows, muppets or bunraku. Festitíteres is a showcase for this very special form of theatrical performance. The event includes all kinds of activities for the whole family, such as activities, workshops and publications, that will allow audiences to enjoy performances with their loved ones. Puppeteering troupes from Spain, Europe and Latin America will perform from November 30th until December 9th. The festival opens with Cuentos de sal y pimiento (Pepper and salt tales) by Andalusian puppeteering company Desgüace Teatro. It's a show for all ages where puppets tell their own fun versión of traditional fairy tales. French troupe Carton Louf bring audiences their group reading experience, whereas the Czeck Republic participates with Devino comedia, a show performed from the interior of a barrel with wine as its star.
