 Exhibitions in Spain.
Arts and culture in Spain. Painting.

The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid presents an exhibition on German art from the end of the 15th to the mid-16th centuries.

The exhibition centres on two fundamental aspects within this period: the image that the artist had of his environment, and the role that these images played in aspects such as religion, politics and war. It also analyses the duality between the Germanic culture's own, specific ideas, and exterior influences, principally from the Italian Renaissance. The exhibition centres on the figures of Durero and Lucas Cranach The Elder, and alongside works by them, you can also see pieces by other major artists from this broad historical period

Cinemas in Madrid and Barcelona

Barcelona and Madrid receive the latest films quite quickly and many are shown dubbed into Spanish. The cinemas listed below show mainly original language foreign films; watch out for "V.O." which means original language in the film listings. Most cinemas have one night per week when entry is discounted (usually a Monday or Wednesday). The Barcelona film festival is held end of June/beginning of July and the International Festival of Horror and Fantasy is in nearby Sitges in October. Also in Sitges around October, a gay and lesbian film festival looks set to become an annual event.
