The Cordoba Patio Festival The Cordoba Patio Festival every May is a unique opportunity to step into private homes, whose owners-after caring for hundreds of plants and flowers all year long-open their patios to the public in early May. People from the city and abroad enjoy their hospitality and marvel at the variety of the decorations and plants, just when the geraniums, roses, carnations and other flowers are in full bloom. For travelers in search of authentic experiences, this tradition is ideal. Cordoba's streets and plazas are a delight to explore, but the city's private houses--many hundreds of years old--shelter beautiful little corners which are waiting to be discovered. Cordoba's patios capture the essence of Andalusia in a tiny space, isolated from the rush and hurry of modern life. The aroma of lemon blossoms, the exuberant vegetation, and the cool trickle of a fountain make them tiny oasis. The festival is the city's most emblematic event of the year. In the words of Manuel Garrido Moreno, president of the Amigos de los Patios Association, "the Patio Festival is to Cordoba what the San Fermines is to Pamplona." Both government and the private sector have made efforts over the last 50 years to save these beautiful private spaces, which are an integral part of the city's architectural and social heritage. As a small incentive, the city hall offers several prizes to the best patios. At the beginning of the festival, patio maps listing all of the patios in the festival are available in local businesses and the Tourist Office. |

It is a typical XV century building, with individual dwellings organised around a central courtyard, with a common veranda which overlooks the courtyard. They were known as Corrales or Corralas. This one is almost untouched and preserves all the age spirit: for example, you enter the public bathrooms through one of the narrowest corridors ever seen. It houses a Touristic Information Point and also a permanent exhibition. It opens from 10,00 to 14,30 and from 17,00 to 19,00. Admission is free. STREETS AND PATIOS OF CÓRDOBA Narrow Streets and Patios of Cordoba All around the city center thereare beautiful alleys and small hidden plazas (patios), where one can listen to the murmur of the water fountains, surrounded by geraniums and other plants. A truly excitement for the all 5 senses. Walking through the streets of Cordoba, at anytime, when one sees inside any doorway to view these beautiful silent patios Every May those who love flowers go to Cordoba to enjoy the famous patio festival. Pretty town houses in the Jewish quarter come alive with colourful displays of geraniums, carnations and jasmines. Pots by the hundreds adorn window ledges, staircases and doors. In a very genteel manner, tourists wander from patio to patio to admire the work put in by the owners and to acquire ideas that would enliven their own Andalucian patios... Read More
