Majorcan San Antoni Fiesta
19 January 2009
Plaça de la Virreina, Barcalona
The Fiesta of San Antonio Abad is held in January each year on the closest Saturday to the 20th
Its the season of The Tamboradas in Spain, towns and villagers all over Spain look for an excuse to start dressing up in military style and bang drums, 'zambombas' throughout the night.
In the district of Gracia in Barcelona they have chosen to celebrate Sa Pobla, remembering the areas Majorcan  rural heritage.  Drummers, singers and of course red devils in a tribute to the patron saint of animals, San Antoni.
Fires, food, drink and fire-works, singing and noise, noise and more noise.
If you like meat pie or Cornish pasties try the local version a 'sobresada'
Which ever Tamborada you go to get ready for a noisy night.  Get near a bonfire and enjoy the procession.
