BARCELONA INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART FESTIVAL EIGHT EDITION 26th November 2008 to 20th December 2008 “…nowadays, cities no longer correspond to what they were thought to be in the last centuries. In the 21st century urban centres have become overwhelming and undefined beings, containers of religions, races and cultures. It is all about a riddle that has turned out to be a recurrent main subject and material framework in the contemporary artistic activity. Factors, such as socio-cultural fusions, art, music, fashion, new technologies, gastronomy, or even inherent situations, such as the loneliness or the alienation of an impersonalized society, play a decisive role both to the expansion and the explosion of big cities. Drawing upon the ancient idea of Babylon as a centre of human progress, BAC! Festival 2007 establishes parallelisms among the huge diversity of cultures that emerged in ancient times and what is known today as the contemporary multiculturalism, a fruit of global migration movements. Due to this contemporary multicultural condition, all kinds of being, thinking, living and life-bearing collide within the confined limits of the contemporary city, square feet by square feet. In this globalization world, countries inevitably tend to identify themselves with their respective cities. It is upon these chameleonic protagonists to satisfy the quest for new global identities in constant shift, through their function as stages for the daily confluence of millions of human beings.
